Sonifer Ultrasonic Cell Disrupter

The Branson Sonifier II Ultrasonic Cell Disrupter is a versatile laboratory unit available in two power levels for ultrasonic disintegration and homogenization.

Each model consists of a power supply, converter, and mechanically self-tuned probe. The power supply converts conventional 6OHz line voltage to high frequency electrical energy at 20,000 Hz. The converter receives the electrical energy from the power supply and coverts it to a 20 Hz mechanical vibration. These ultrasonic vibrations are coupled to the horn which transmits the high frequency energy to the solution.

Ultrasonic vibrations can also be applied directly to a solid workpiece with the use of a variety of specially designed tips that attach to the horn.

The Sonifier II is suitable for laboratory or pilot use and can handle processes requiring high or lower intensity ultrasonic energy. It has a compact shape that saves one third the space required by other units. The angled front panel provides clear visibility and easy access to controls and loading meter. A complete line of accessories for the Sonifier II is available to meet individual application requirements.

APPLICATIONS

Applications include emulsification of immiscible liquids; homogenization, the reduction of substances to particles and dispersion of them throughout a fluid making it uniform in consistency; dispersion of insoluble substances in liquid; and acceleration of chemical and biological reaction, e.g., depolymerization of large molecules. Other applications include sparation, extraction, benefication, leaching, disruption, mixing, scrubbing, disintegration, and comminution.
